Senior Software Engineer
Location: Remote
At NewsBank, Senior Software Engineers maintain and enhance web applications in an agile, team-oriented environment. NewsBank’s web applications empower a broad range of users and partners worldwide to unlock knowledge from our vast and diverse content set and leverage it for academic research, genealogical research, philanthropic giving, tracking trends, or simply keeping up with the news.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll take ownership of complex project areas, influence technical decisions, and mentor team members while collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Product Owners, User Experience, QA/QC, API, and Technical Operations. Be part of a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive team that values impact and continuous improvement.
Starting Salary Range: $100,000 to $125,000
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and support scalable, complex web applications involving large datasets and multi-system integrations that meet high standards of quality and performance.
- Create clean, efficient, maintainable code that follows best practices and coding standards. Engage in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Mentor junior developers, fostering skill development and supporting their technical growth.
- Ensure product availability, including responding to urgent and significant technical issues, both during and outside business hours.
- Contribute to process improvement and team strategies through proactive discussions and actionable ideas.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in web application software development.
- Proven ability to deliver complex projects on time and within budget, demonstrating ownership and accountability.
- Expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript development ecosystems, including Node.js, Next.js, React, and associated tools.
- Strong understanding of design patterns, advanced programming concepts, and system optimization techniques.
- Skilled communicator who collaborates effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including Product Owners, User Experience, Customer Service, Marketing, Quality Control and Technical Operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing or maintaining e-commerce applications, including payment integration and personalized user experiences.
- Familiarity with building and maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipeline processes.
- Experience with large-scale information retrieval systems or complex datasets.
- Knowledge or experience using PHP and Drupal.
